About The Peony Cottage

I look forward to sharing my love of peonies with you!

Hi, my name is Jennifer Orkisz, and The

Peony Cottage is my pride and joy.  I am a retired music teacher, proud mom, hard worker, and a lover of all things peony!  I look forward to sharing the fragrance, beauty, and memory-making that peonies have brought me.

Peonies last for generations

Peonies are attached to memories: I can remember smelling and picking peonies in my mom's garden when I was a child and the joy I felt when I was gifted a division of my grandma's peony plant.  Peonies are a perennial that can last for many decades.  This simple fact means many people can grow a division from a loved one and pass it down to further generations.  Every time I moved I would dig Grandma's peonies up and take them with me. This is a picture of my Uncle Maurice sitting in front of my grandma's peony bush at her house in 1948.

Peonies take Patience

I started planning The Peony Cottage in 2020 and planted my roots in 2021 at my friend's farm. Each peony root has sat in the field growing for years, waiting for the right time to harvest. In 2024, I purchased my property with the cute little building that is now known as The Peony Cottage, and moving all my roots began.

I hope you enjoy my flowers as much as I do and can join me on my peony journey!
